“The appearance of His face changed”; “His clothes became as
bright as a flash of lightning”; Peter, James and John “saw His glory” –
the glory of the Son of God (Luke 9:35). The transfiguration points
forward to Christ’s crucifixion: “They spoke about His departure, which
He was about to bring to fulfilment at Jerusalem” (Luke 9:31). It also
points beyond His crucifixion to the glory of His resurrection – the
glory of Christ, risen from the dead; the glory of Christ, seated at the
Father’s right hand.
